Wow. I'm surprised that this capability was not yet deemed worthwhile
to support.
Okay, so as a workaround I'm creating separate accounts within the same
evolution console. But now I'm running into another problem: How do I
specify what folder should receive the incoming mail for each account?
I do see options for specifying the default Drafts and Sent mail folders
for the account. But AFAICT all incoming mail seems to get mixed up
into a single Incoming folder for all accounts. I could use filters to
separate out the different accounts, but it would seem to make much more
sense to keep separate accounts separate from the start, rather than
mixing message up in a single folder and then sorting them all out again
using filters. Is that the way to go, or is there some other option
that I missed?
In general, I would have thought that each mail account would have its
own specifiable folders for:
Incoming mail
Sent mail
Deleted mail (trash)
Drafts
Spam (junk)
so that work and personal email (for example) could be kept separate,
which is basically all I am trying to do, though I have multiple work
accounts and multiple personal accounts. I would think that many users
would have similar situations and desires. However, this isn't what I
seem to see.

you can't. evolution uses gconf which stores all settings in
its own prefix and is a system-wide daemon, so no environment
variables will help there.

This ought to be trivially easy--presumably by setting the
appropriate
environment variable or command-line option. However, I have been
unable to find information about Evolution environment variables,
except in reference to specifying what browser to use (which is
apparently NOT accomplished with env vars, BTW), and none of the
command-line options that I've found seem relevant.
Apparently there
is no man page :( and the evolution user guide seems to have no
mention of this. Searching the archives and the Web in
general have
similarly been fruitless.
Any idea how to do this? It ought to be trivially easy.
I'm using evolution 2.0.4 on Gnome / Debian.
