probably can just copy the files over - don't they both store in mbox
format?

I suppose you can always take the 'other method' of setting up an imap
server on the gentoo box, connecting to it with both programs and
dragging the local mail to the imap server and then on gentoo/evolution,
dragging it out to evolution local folders.
