Someone just posted something to the gnome-pilot list which might

Oh, forgot the obvious: have you added the USB Vendor/Product ID to
the list of recognised IDs for gnome-pilot? If you're running
gnome-pilot-2.0.12 you need to edit the devices.xml file by hand and
restart gnome-pilot.
The Kyocera Vendor ID is 0x0c88, and the device ID for the
7135 is 0x0021.
The Palm Zire 72, for instance, isn't in
my /opt/gnome/share/gnome-pilot/devices.xml
Maybe that helps.

instantly - and for the record... I added to my
<!-- Kyocera -->
<!-- Kyocera 7135 -->
<device vendor_id="0c88" product_id="0021" />
to
/usr/share/gnome-pilot/devices.xml
Yo, man! You can sync! Welcome to what appears to have been an elite
club! I only made because I'm using such old stuff. ;0) Good for you.
Hopefully Richard's info will make all others successful, too.
On the serious side, better documentation would have prevented a lot of
anguish and torn allegiances. This is a perfect example of what holds
users back in Linux. Not all of us are Rocket Scientists. :0|
Thanks again to Richard for providing the missing link for so many.

Indeed - thanks Richard
if I had known about devices.xml, I probably could have figured it out
myself - clearly, that was why I was claiming that gpilotd was deaf.
Now, if I had a way to change the 'category' of entries in a group
instead of one at a time...
;-)
Thanks
Craig
