Well presumably it should already? Unless its been specifically configured not to.

Depends a bit on the server. For uw-imapd, you can just copy the mbox files to named files in ~/mail, and/or then you subscribe to the folders using your client. If the server uses maildir you may need to do something different (i.e. convert the mailboxes).
With uw-imapd folders can either only have messages or only have other folders, since they're mbox files with directory separators.
