You don't have to do that for IMAP; you can use the 'use command to
connect' option. Just make it run 'sock5 netcat %h %p', or whatever
works to make a connection to the server in question instead of trying
to make a TCP connection directly.
You could trivially extend the same support to work for POP3 and SMTP.
