RE: [Evolution] Help: I screwed up my Evolution-1.4.5

O.K. I did as you said...

I logged out, then CTRL-ALT-F1 and logged in console mode. There was nothing
in /tmp/orbit-root or /tmp/orbit-$USER (because I already deleted the stuff
before logging out). I also ran bonobo-slay. Then I logged back in and tried
to start evolution. ***No Change*** I also rebooted and tried again with no
change.

So to recap:

When starting evolution from a console in KDE3.2.1 I get an error:

(Killing of version of Wombat...) ** (evolutionL5156): WARNING **: Extremely
strange, strange object directories (0)registered with the activation context

and an error window that says:

Cannot access the Ximian Evolution shell.

I have recently rebuilt and installed KDE3.2.1 from source and the
evolution-1.4.6 rpms for Redhat 9 and I have a custom 2.4.25 kernel that I
built.

Help??

Wouldn't restarting the machine also take care of whatever bonobo-slay
does?

yes, but you didn't say that before :-)

logout of your user account, then Ctrl-Alt-F1 and login at the console.
then `rm -rf /tmp/orbit-$USER`, then you should be able to log back into
the GUI (X + GNOME or KDE or whatever it is you run). Starting Evolution
will probably work after that. I hope.

I think the solution is to run `bonobo-slay` and then try to start up
evolution. somehow your bonobo-activation-server got fouled up.

I'm sorry about multiple posts on this but my original e-mail source is

I upgraded my Redhat 9 rpms to:

evolution-1.4.6-0.ximian.6.5.i386.rpm
gtkhtml3.0-3.0.10-0.ximian.6.1.i386.rpm
gtkhtml3.0-devel-3.0.10-0.ximian.6.1.i386.rpm
libgal2.0_6-1.99.11-0.ximian.6.1.i386.rpm
libgal2.0-devel-1.99.11-0.ximian.6.1.i386.rpm
libgtkhtml3.0_4-3.0.10-0.ximian.6.1.i386.rpm

but I still get an error window when I execute the application that
says
"Cannot access the Ximian Evolution shell."

When I execute the application in a terminal, I get the window plus the
terminal output:

(Killing of version of Wombat...)

** (evolutionL5156): WARNING **: Extremely strange, strange object
directories (0)registered with the activation context

Help????!!!

hi,

no idea so far, could be a few reasons why evo does not run.
please run evolution from terminal/console and post the entire output.

cheers,
