[Evolution] Slightly OT: Autoconf macro directory

I'm getting an error when trying to configure various packages from
CVS.  (Output below) I'm not sure how to address the problem, but I
think this question is in order: how do I find my "autoconf macro
directory"?  And would it be enough to put symbolic links in said
directory?

from the /usr/share/aclocal directory to your autoconf macro directory
or directly to your aclocal.m4 file.
You will also need config.guess and config.sub, which you can get from
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/config/.

Running intltoolize...
patching file po/Makefile.in.in
Running libtoolize...
You should add the contents of `/usr/share/aclocal/libtool.m4' to
`aclocal.m4'.
Running aclocal -I /usr/share/aclocal/gnome2-macros  ...
