Run evolution-1.5 with CAMEL_DEBUG=all set in the environment (from a terminal), to see exactly what command is failing.  Some versions of gw have decidedly dodgy imap implementations though.

Umm, these errors can only happen if you're replying to a message.

These look like an installation problem.

Is there anything I can do to resolve the IMAP dialogs, and generally

Try rm -rf /tmp/orbit-*, that might affect some startup performance for various things- might.
