Hey list,

A friend told me about this problem today. Looks like everytime I
send him an email with an attachment he gets it correctly except for
the fact that the attachment loses the extension. What I mean is for
example if I attach a file called file.pdf he gets the correct file
but named file (notice the lack of extension .pdf). If he manually
renames the file (adding the .pdf) the file is ok. Note that this seem
to happen with different extension (he can confirm it happened with
.doc, .zip and.pdf).

Here is a little info on the system. I am running Red Hat 9.0 with
Evo 1.4.5 using only POP servers and he is on Windows 2000 with
Outlook 2000. He also told me that it had been happening for a while,
this means that it was happening with previous version of Evo. From
the timeframe he told me it looks that this started after I upgraded
to 1.4.2 (I went from 1.2.5 to 1.4.2).

As anyone else seen this,

Yup. One of the options with Windows 2000 (and XP) is to NOT display
known file extensions. If your friend turned that option on, then he
won't see the ".pdf" or ".doc".

When he adds the extension manually, he actually ends up with a file
called "xxxxx.pdf.pdf" and the system hides the second one.

Ask him to go into tools -> folder options -> view, and then untick the
box "Hide file extensions for known file types".

Hope this helps.
