sorry that i am starting a laptop/desktop syncronization thread again,
but reading all the earlier ones got me all confused :)

what i understood from them was that i could use multisync for contact,
calender, todo's?

and that i should use maildir for mails, to get them as single files,
and then sync them with something?

would it work to use rsync or something, and then just sync the two
directories?

anothing thing, i tried to emerge multisync, and i dont seem to have the
evolution plugin when i start multisync, but maybe im misunderstanding
something, is the plugin meant to appear in evolution, and in case it
is, where?

the plugin will apear in multisync. if you add a new sync-pair you
should be able to choose the evolution plugin.

if it does not appear do the following:

do a which multisync and look where it is installed (for example
/usr/local ...) then look at the directory /usr/local/lib/multisync and
check that there is libevolution_sync.so in that dir. If it is do a
export MULTISYNC_DEBUG=1 and look for any errors when it tries to load
the plugin.
