Onto Evolution, well it has certainly evolved; seems to use anti-aliased
fonts now and startup seems quite a bit faster.
Evolution 1.3.x is the port to Gnome 2 and thus uses the Gnome 2 ability
with anti-aliased fonts. :-)
One thing though after
installation through Red Carpet 2.0, when I try to start evolution from
the command line I get two choices:
evolution-1.3 evolution-1.4
1.3 is the only one that works.
# ls -l `which evolution-1.4`
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 May 9 02:48 /usr/bin/evolution-1.4 -> /usr/bin/evolution-1.3*
1.4 is just a symlink on my machine (Mandrake 9.1, Evolution 1.3.3) and
works as expected. Seems like a packaging issue with the SuSE 8.2 RPMs.
/opt/gnome2/bin has both evolution-1.3 and evolution-1.4. Is Ximian
following the Kernel by listing 1.3 as unstable, with the view that 1.4
will be released as stable?
Yep, 1.3.x are the current developer versions and beta stage. 1.4 will
be the next stable release.
