Two ways to get a sound when receiving email:
1) The generic approach: having the mail preferences, new mail
notification set to play a sound file.
2) The specific aproach: having a filter play a sound file when specific
criteria are met. One could also use different sounds for different
filters.
To have a sound for just one folder, just turn off the generic mail
notification sound, and add a sound action to the filter that populates
that folder. This assumes your folders get populated by Evolution
filters rather than by procmail or some other mechanism. That wasn't
specified.

Is there anyway to not play a sound for the rest of my folders except
for one? If I use the filter method for "Play Sound" and don't select
anything I get the File does not exist dialog. I don't want a sound to
play at all for these other folders the only way around it is to just
play an empty wav file I guess.

"Play sound" is one of the possible filter actions.

Is it possible to get evolution to play a sound on new mail for one
folder?
The situation as it stands is that every time I get new mail in a sub
folder of my inbox a sound is played. I only want sound to be played for
a certain folder; my main inbox. My other folders I'll go through on the
weekend or when I have free time. The frequency in which I receive mail
in email lists such as this one and others makes for an annoying
experience when it comes to the notification of new mail (playing a
sound). Even if I only check for new mail every hour.
Any info on this would be cool.. The way it looks from the user side of
things Evolution will play the sound file on all new mail regardless of
what it is. If that's the case I vote for "New Mail Notification"
functionality =)
Thanks a lot gals/guys,
