I have had the same issue with Evolution hanging, for me its usually while composing an email, but sometimes just sitting there it will hang and pop up the message about your application becoming unresponsive.  Im running Redhat 9.....

Ron, you might want to check your .xsession-errors file for more specific info, or you can start evolution from the command line, but make sure you add

CAMEL_VERBOSE_DEBUG=1 to your enviroment before you do....

It doesn't crash it freezes.  It no longer responds to anything, doesn't repaint it screens, it is thoroughly hung.  I do nothing to make it crash, my options are set so that mail is NOT automatically pulled.   I start it up, let it set and it hangs.

could you be more descriptive? what sorts of things are you doing to
make it crash? are you just starting it up and letting it sit there
without touching it and 15 minutes later it crashes? If so, is it
possible that it is trying to auto-check one of your mail accounts?
which account? can you get a backtrace?

Need input.
