[Evolution] Display previous message button

I searched the archives, and I cannot find the purpose of the next and
previous buttons in the main window. They don't seem to actually display
anything, they just make the focus move up or down in the message list.
Using a button to focus on a message seems to be kind of useless because
you could just click directly on the message.  So, why do we have these
buttons?
