[Evolution] LDAP Authentication by Distinguished Name on AD

Guys,
        I have a problem with an LDAP server (that requires Authentication,
its Active Directory, Exchange 5.5).  I can't get Evolution to Authenticate.
I'm trying "distinguished name", I've tried putting DOMAIN\username or
dc=DOMAIN,cn=username, in the distinguished name field, but no go.

Evolution says "incorrect URI or Server unreachable".

I've sniffed the packets with Ethereal.  Part of the problem seems to be
Evolution sends a "Search Request", and gets back "Insufficient access
rights 0x32", but no "Bind Request" first, this happens when I click on my
ldap server under "Other Contacts"

I can make it send a "Bind Request" by using the "account-editor" and
editing my ldap server properties, then press "Show Supported Bases", but
the Bind Request packet has nothing in the DN or Password fields, so it
fails with "Invalid credentials 0x31", Evolution says "Failed to
authenticate with LDAP server".

If I change the server to allow Anonymous lookups it works ok.

So how do I get the Authentication to work, I've tried everything I can
think of?????

Its version 1.2.1 of Evolution built from source --with-openldap=yes
(version of openldap 2.0.21)
