It's a bug in libgnomecanvas.  You are probably running gtk+-2.2 with
libgnomecanvas-2.0, or an older release of libgnomcanvas-2.2.  Try
upgrading to the latest libgnomecanvas release.


Which reminds me: the configure.in in gal doesn't check for a non-broken
libgnomecanvas; we should add a test for that.
