What I don't understand is the following:
While freedom of choice being advocated up and down the road in the
Linux community, I am forced to use Ximian's propriatry tool to simply
download some software. Why not put it up on a web site or an ftp
server.

'T'aint necessarily so. I download mine from
mirror.zeelandnet.nl/ximian.zeelandnet.nl, without Red Carpet.

Well, how should I know...
Hmmm I can only find some old cvs-snapshots... (1.0.6)

Ximian's knowledge base does say something different though:
http://support.ximian.com/cgi-bin/ximian.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=MDB7I6tg&p_lva=&p_faqid=173&p_created=1017269162&p_sp=cF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTM2JnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9JnBfcHJvZF9sdmwxPTcmcF9wYWdlPTE*&p_li=

Anyway, it works now and I'm happy, although the procedure could've been
made a _lot_ easier...

Best,

Tony
