[Evolution] Tuning timeout

I'm using evolution behind a dial-up router (netopia r2020).

The router establishes a connection on demand (When evolution checks my
mail, the connection is established.)

Unfortunately, evo times out before the connection is established.

Is there any way I can tune the amount of time before it times out?
