John,
Thanks. That gave me the trail I needed; did a "man gnome-moz-remote"
to realize I needed to create the gnome-moz-remote file under .gnome
with the same basic values you listed. Once I did that, galeon became
the default w/o even having to restart galeon - gotta love when the
files get read each time *g*.
Thanks,
Joe

On my RH7.1 Ximian Gnome I get
[jweber ceora jweber]$ grep -r BROWSER .gnome*
.gnome/gnome-moz-remote:BROWSER=Galeon
[jweber ceora jweber]$ cat .gnome/gnome-moz-remote
[Mozilla]
filename=galeon
NEEDS_TERM=false
NREMOTE=false
BROWSER=Galeon
Maybe this helps you (?) I don't know for sure if this is the actual
file that controls the default browser. Galeon is my default browser.

a variation on this...
i have the same question, but have chosen (for hardware constraint
reasons) to use only blackbox and not load any more of the kde/gnome
desktops than absolutely necessary, so i don't have those GUIs to go
through; which file(s) do i need to modify to change the default browser
that evolution uses for links?
i do have some of gnome installed (enough for evolution,
gnumeric and galeon basically) but not the full install. evolution
appears to be looking at the system $BROWSER variable for its selection
of browsers, i just haven't found where the original definition of
$BROWSER is yet.
i've changed /etc/X11/Xsession to BROWSER=`which galeon 2> /dev/null`
after all prior assignments, replacing whatever may have been assigned
(w/o actually removing/commenting out the supplied code) - to no avail.
i added the same assignment in my .bash_profile - to no avail.
logged out and back in after each change.
where do i need to look at the file level, please?
thanks,
joe

How do I set the default browser in Evolution
Since I'm switching from Opera to Moz, and I just looked this up in the
FAQ, and am using KDE:
Run gnomecc, and edit the URL Handler. Restart Evo to pick up the new
setting.
