[Evolution] WAV attachments and xmms

Dear list - I have this strange problem. When I receive an email with a
sound file (WAV) and want to open it with xmms (as Evolution suggests),
I get an 'open file' dialog from xmms. I can only play the file if I do
'save as' first. The same procedure in Mozilla mail does behave as
expected.
Any pointer as to what might be the issue is much appreciated. I run
Ximian Gnome on a Debian Potato box.
