I have noticed those problems as well.

When Evo did that to me, I ran killev, then I killed all oaf processes.
(I did not run oaf-slay, I did 'ps -ef|grep oaf' then killed all oaf
processes that were listed.

Once I did that Evo would start up, and run OK.
