[Evolution] gnome-vfs does not see libgconf

I am trying to install ximian desktop by downlaoding.  Gnome-vfs does not see 
libgconf-1.so.0.  I have this file installed in the /usr/lib/ directory.  I 
was wondering if I need to rebuild the database and how I would do that.  If 
I anm wrong.  please tell me what to do.  I've had ximian and evo on the 
computer before but it crashed and wiped out my system.
