[Evolution] evo needs to be run as root for contacts?

When I run evolution as gottlieb the importer fails to load the
contacts brought in from my palm by gnome-pilot, but when I run it
with uid 0 the contacts are loaded (but no phone numbers, see below).

I have reported the problem running it as gottlieb before.  To summarize
the first errors printed are

But even with uid zero there is a problem.  All the fields seem to be
working except for the phone numbers.  The beginning of the contact
file I am importing is below

For AAA and Abbatiello the phone numbers are nowhere to be found in
any evolution window.  For Accessaries, in the summary listing there
is a line

Primary:    800-881-7256 (US)

but when I double click on accessories to bring up its detailed window, no
phone number is visible in either the general or details tab.
