Before you do this, cancel the Gnome 1.4 installation, quit RC and do
rpm --rebuilddb. From my experience with a similar problem, it seems
that the rpm database was left in an inconsistent state by an old evo
rpm, and RC seemed to believe that an old version of Evo was around and
needed old packages that the Gnome installation was about to replace.

The Evo channel is in RC now. But downloading is still very slow. Not
surprising, since so many people were waiting for Gnome 1.4, which, BTW,
looks very good, including the new default settings.
