FYI I get this too.

I download my mail to a local mail-file which evo then reads and this problem
still occures so it's not a pop-only problem

The reason I download with another application is that I haven't gotten 
kerberos-pop into evolution (I know there are some support for it but I 
haven't had time to play with it).
