What if you only took away the lines from within a thread but there would still
be lines between messages which arent in the thread? Is that what you meant?

I agree. Also, removing the grey lines between each message might make
the shape of the thread clearer (like in Netscape Mail).
On threads, I noticed a couple of minor bugs. Sometimes the messages in
a thread are shown out of order. For example, the reply might come
first, and the original message second. Other times, it shows messages
in the same thread when they should be in different threads. Maybe the
first problem is happening because the code assumes that the mbox is
already sorted by date, or that a reply always has a later date than the
email it is replying to. But that's just a guess.
