This is also my understanding. Also, adapting to the build-api is trivial or easy enough in most cases. Or just planning for it, as for example in: https://github.com/aperezdc/nss-altfiles/blob/master/configure https://github.com/aperezdc/nss-altfiles/blob/master/Makefile (Only 111 and 75 lines, respectively.
