thanks for your help with the patch testing.
'make dist' or 'make dist-check' is usually called to create a tar.xz
file.
With respect of gtk-doc yes or no, the pre-build tar.xz has it on and
the respective maintainer _can_ turn it off during configure. I do not
see any issue with it.
For you might be easier to take the patch and add it into the package,
but I do not know Arch Linux at all, I just use the package
modifications with patches on Fedora, where the patch is added into
the %prep section of a .spec file and that's all.
