Nope, I limited the size of the folder to 25 items and the request still
fails - but quicker! :)  The exact error message in the dialog is:

The Evolution address book has quit unexpectedly.
Your contacts for webdav://adam 127 0 0 1:8080/dav/Contacts will not be
available until Evolution is restarted
