Before I spend too much time studying the code and
makefiles, is it feasible to separate the components
and make them compile-time options?  Ideally, I'd like
to make each removable component a ./configure
feature.  Is this totally hopeless, or fairly
straightforward?  If it's feasible, any hints on where
to start?
Its probably not very simple, since some interfaces are shared.  You can't remove the addressbook for example.

If you don't click on them they don't really load much, so there isn't much point either.
