-7 doesn't mean 7 extra patches, but just that many builds. But, for
what it's worth the patches in there were all stuff that had been
committed to the branch + the patch that just changes the default.
Anything I add, I send because I don't want to be stuck maintaining a
pile of patches that isn't upstream -- it's not in my best interests :)
But, I'd also recommend (to Dax) trying the 1.4.5 package which show up
in rawhide at some point, thrown up as
http://people.redhat.com/~katzj/evolution-1.4.5-2.i386.rpm to get it out
faster.

It's worse because I'm running it and yet haven't seen it :/

A copy of the man page found by google is at
http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/linuxcommand.org/man_pages/prelink8.html. I
don't see how it could affect things, but it is one difference that
could be being hit. So, running prelink now to see if it makes it so
that I start seeing the hangs so that I can start tracking things down.
