There are PERL CPAN modules that do this, some of them don't work fully 
yet; however I'm sure you could help fix that too.

What would also be really killer for the calendar is writing a GNOME-VFS 
module so you could save the calendar over different URI's. (ftp://, 
smb://, ...)
