evince links not working in

Greetings
I am running Debian 5.0 (stable) and like to use evince 2.22.2 as my pdf viewer.
Obtained a moderate sized pdf (36 pages) where there are large numbers of links.
The document was produced on Acrobat Distiller 9.0.0 (Macintosh) and
is in format PDF-1.6.
None of the hot links work when clicked upon.
What do I do to get this feature to work?
