Compiling evince-2.22 on a non-Gnome system

I have a Crux system without a Gnome desktop and am trying to compile
evince from the sources. This worked fairly well up to 2.20, but now
configure complaines about a missing gio-2.0. Is there any way to get
this library without installing the complete Gnome system? I couldn't
find the sources anywhere.
