crashes on large files

i upgraded from core 3 to core 7.
previous i used ggv to plot large postscript file of data:  100 mb plus
gv would crash on these files.

on core 7 evince seem to the standard viewer.  but it crashes on even 
small files.

is there a place i can control file sizes allowed?

i now have to use gimp but this is not as convenient.
