Driving evince from scripts

Hi,
I'd like to know if there's (or if there will ever be) a way to control
evince from scripts, as totem does. Something like 

totem --play-pause
evince --next-page

The main problem I think it's that evince handles multiple files opened
at the same time but there could be an "evince --get-opened-documents"
or "evince --get-focused-document".

(I'd like to drive presentation with a remote that don't send pgup
pgdown.)
