That's why I wonder if community will choose the same project once again. But probably it worth to try. If you really like to have take part in Soc I suppose it's better to move to ocr or ally problems in Evince although for sure there are also critical parts of desktop waiting for hands. But of course we'd be glad to help you right now, probably Carlos will be mentor if you'd like official person. So you can start with requirements collection. As far as I know it aren't clear for us what will go into annotations support and how it will look.
