evince 0.6.0 with fedora 6, not printing pdf

Why do I need to print my .pdf to a .ps file format for evince to print it?  When I choose print with a .pdf file nothing happens - no job goes to the printer.  I do see these messages when starting evince from a terminal:

[root localhost ~]# evince
