Why no extension system?

Hi

Just one simple question that I'm very curious to know. Why aren't there any open extension system like what Firefox and Chromium have? There are some features that many people miss with Gnome Browser, like Google Translate, or a configurable ad blocker.

We already have the same system for gnome-shell available.
