Your idea is similar to the (unfortunately uncompleted) "Mathusalem"
long running task manager project in 2006. See

I, for one, would welcome such an application. But one more thing:

This is not as easy as it sounds, because you need a shared cookie store
between the browser and your code for cookie-authenticated downloads. As
I understand it, getting this working in libsoup is a challenge in
itself.
