video and audio not synched

The video lags the audio and the video re-scans. I am running debian
etch, AMD 1200 with 1GB memory. Network running at 3Mbs.
GNOME Web Browser 2.14.3 Using Gecko 1.8 backend.

Off the same router, my wife's machine does not have the problem and she
is running a smaller Dell machine using XP.

My cpu runs at 85% with 35% memory utilization, no swap used.

Any suggestions?
