Old bug in Gecko, and Mozilla doesn't seem too interested in doing 
anything about it. A workaround is to set your homepage to a blank page. 
A proper solution is to wait for epiphany-webkit to get stable; it was 
exactly bugs like that coupled with the indifference of Mozilla and the 
general Gecko embedding experience that led to the decision to switch 
over to WebKit.
