Hi Kristian,
The "search bar" in Epiphany 1.8.x and 1.9.x is really a "smart
bookmark". If you create a bookmark with a %s like:
http://www.google.com.au/search?q=%s
and add it to the toolbar it will give you what you want. You probably
already have a bookmark like this, so just find it in the bookmark
editor and drag-drop it to your toolbar.
Note that these "smart bookmarks" also appear in the dropdown of the
location entry, so you don't really need to have an explicit search
widget on your toolbar.
