Well, I know it could be done this way, but it is like tweaking MS
Windows with regedit, even worse, because about:config is a single huge
list of options and it works terribly slow.

Exactly that - state that evolution wants images do be always displayed
and be a strange browser or agree that a check box doesn't ruin the
simplicity. It makes things simpler because you provide users with what
they expect instead of saying "what you're asking for is too
complicated. my grandma won't accept it"
The patch should be 2-pence simple, but the question raised several
times on this list and had no definite answer.
