I think if GNOME uses a default reader, it should choose Liferea
(http://liferea.sf.net). Liferea comes with most features, a clear GUI
and e.g. uses GConf to store its configuration. Some things have to be
done, e.g. integrating fdo's MIME-type detection and so on. But's on a
good way. It supports a DBus to couple with other apps.
