Re: roadmap discussions

Privacy and Security issues:

The reason we prefer and deploy Firefox over Epiphany in our labs is
privacy and security. And that's the reason every corporate/academic
system administrator I know will continue to do so. In short, Epiphany
by default isn't secure and encourages sloppy privacy practices.

To date, Firefox can be locked down easily and more securely than
Epiphany can. Take a look at Firefox' privacy preferences, we use all
those and more in our labs/libraries for basic security. I have
already been bitten by Epiphany's insecure default settings. (Bug
150680)

If users/administrators can't adjust the privacy/security policies of
the application considered to be the gateway to the unsafe internet,
then the application will just not be deployed on a large scale.

When I can easily lock down and secure epiphany so that everytime a
user closes epiphany all his/her information is safely deleted, like I
can do in Firefox, then perhaps I will take a look at epiphany again.
Until then, I just can't deploy Epiphany on a large scale, and I doubt
any system/network adminstrator will.

I believe epiphany has the potential to be a better browser than
Firefox is especially for GNOME, but today, I see a lot of reasons why
Firefox is preferred, smooth scrolling and auto scrolling for example.
I used to be an Epiphany zealot until a friend accessed my banking
info without sweat using Epiphany. That has left a sour taste in my
mouth. Please...please...please...focus on privacy and security. They
are extremely important especially for a web browser.

One of Firefox' selling point is that it is more secure than IE, if we
can make that a selling point for Epiphany over Firefox, it will go a
long way in its adoption at the corporate and academic levels.
