Re: eog won't open a certain jpeg.

Hi Chris

Sorry for the late response.

I made a jpeg in hugin photostitcher.

The jpeg won't open eog. An error message appears on the screen:
Error interpreting JPEG image file (Suspension not allowed here).

Eog spits out many error messages similar to the following on the
command line:

(eog:16255): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error:
gnome-applications.css:491:25: Not a valid image

It opens in ImageMagick and gimp, rawtherapee and shotwell, Firefox,
however, fails to open it.

That JPEG file seems to use the so called "Arithmetic Coding"
compression variant of the JPEG codec. Unfortunately
libjpeg/libjpeg-turbo (depending on your distro) doesn't seem to support
streaming such images to the decoder in several chunks (as eog and
apparently Firefox do) instead of decoding the image in one piece.

Working around that in eog is not easy, as this would require changing
quite a big chunk of eog's image loading code. So, eog won't be able to
display your picture soon. :(

Regards,

Felix
