How many food recipe apps are out there that look good, designed well, and has the kind of features for the Internet age?  Probably none.

As an aside and purely for your curiosity: there's http://jeff.ecchi.ca/blog/2010/10/13/introducing-recipe-manager/  but as you can see there was no community interest and one year down the road I didn't have time anymore to continue fixing all the remaining issues and implement new things (port to GTK3, have a website scraper, an online sharing system instead of the link-local/avahi one, a better UI/UX, etc.).

With an app store model you have a better chance.  The reason you didn't have a community is that, you aren't in charge of distributing the app.  So you have no way of creating a community that easily.

Because we are changing how apps are distributed, we have a much better chance of having 1:1 relationships with the community.  So, you should port to GTK3, and making it an xdg-app.
