Gnome or GNOME?

OK, I'm a bit confused here. For some reason I thought we had decided to go from GNOME to Gnome as GNOME is no longer considered an abbreviation. Is this true? It just seems that we seem to be using the two interchangeably. For my part, I'm using Gnome.
