marketing plans

We had a conversation at GNOME.Asia about marketing and what people could work on, so I thought I'd start a thread on things I think need to be done.
  1. Press releases. This isn't just writing them but also seeing opportunities. We could do press releases for GNOME releases, individual product releases, organizations/companies that decide to deploy GNOME, ...
  2. Case studies. It would be great to have some articles, blog posts and slides around organizations that currently use GNOME. This is really important for showing people the value of GNOME.
  3. Marketing materials. This is a broad topic but we could use everything from standard signage at conferences to slides. We could use a GNOME overview presentation, architecture, and then individual slides on different topics (with speaking notes) that could be included in other presentations. Even just finding what's out there and putting together a nice wiki page would be really helpful.
  4. Press hits. Making sure we reach out to press/bloggers that talks about us, comment on blogs that mention us, etc.
  5. Friends of GNOME. We're working on new web pages and recurring monthly payments but we could use a marketing push as well.
  6. What is GNOME? Helping define language and pictures that explains what GNOME is, all the different components and what their value is. Probably in multiple levels - some for technical audiences, some for wider audiences, some for people with an OSS background, ...
  7. GNOME 2009 plans - a summary non-GNOME project members will understand.
  8. Write-ups from GNOME.Asia, Boston Summit, hackfests, etc. We're going to start a quarterly newsletter in addition to our annual report. These write-ups could be from in person experience or taken from all the blog posts and emails that come out of an event or from interviews of people that went.
Others?

Any takers?

I'll find a wiki page to put this on as well.
